Lyons Construction recycled 94% of construction waste on Good News Lutheran College project

Lyons Construction proudly announces that 94% of our construction waste from the recently completed Good News Lutheran College project has been recycled.

Through our partnerships with BINGO Industries and Djurwa, we have successfully diverted 44 tonnes of construction waste from landfill.

Steve Lyons, Managing Director of Lyons Construction said sustainability was a core part of the company’s ethos.

“Ingrained in our Strategic Plan and permeated through our operations, sustainability is one of our core values. Through our operations, we want to make sure the products we use are sourced from ethical manufacturers and where possible made from recycled or renewable materials. We also want to make sure that what we do as far as possible does not cause any harm to the environment or add unnecessarily to emissions,” said Steve.

Last year, Lyons Construction established new sustainability targets and objectives, one of which was to divert and recycle up to 95% of our construction waste.

Engaging with BINGO Industries and Djurwa to achieve these goals has been hugely beneficial. Onsite our teams initiate the waste collection and sorting process. From here BINGO or Djurwa move the waste to their waste management facility to see what can be recycled and diverted from landfill.

Steve said Lyons Construction’s new waste management targets mark another step in their sustainability journey.

“To survive as a business and an industry we have to all do our bit for the environment. We have done it in the past by supporting the ceasing of logging and use of old growth trees, transitioning to renewable fast-growth pine, LVLs, and glulam beams. Minimising waste and maximising reuse of waste contributes greatly to our sustainability goals. As a community too much ends up in landfill, so let’s all work together to change that,” said Steve.

Thank you to BINGO Industries and Djurwa for helping us make this possible.
