It is with bittersweet emotions that today, we announce the retirement of Gary Iacono from Lyons Construction. In today’s fast-paced working environment, finding someone with a 10-year tenure at a single company is becoming increasingly rare. However, Lyons Construction has had the privilege of having Gary Iacono within its fold for 46 years. Gary’s journey with Lyons Construction is not just a testament to his dedication, but also a story of adaptability, growth, and unwavering loyalty.

Gary’s Remarkable 46-year Journey at Lyons Construction

Gary’s association with Lyons Construction began in 1977 when he was just 16 years old. He was introduced to the company through his father, John Iacono who was a valued member of the Lyons Construction team and would also later go on to clock up 16 years service. At that time, Lyons Construction boasted a team of skilled carpenters, laborers, cabinet makers, and foremen. The company was on the lookout for a trainee estimator, and young Gary decided to apply for the role.

Gary’s adaptability and unwavering loyalty to the company have been the cornerstones of his career. Over the course of 46 years, he steadily rose through the ranks, transitioning from Estimator to Project Manager, and eventually assuming the role of Managing Director. His contributions extend beyond his executive roles; Gary also serves as a valued Director and Board Member of the business.

Gary’s expertise in estimating and managing day-to-day operations has earned him respect and admiration from clients, architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, peers, and, most importantly, his dedicated team of employees. His leadership not only cemented his position within the company but has also left an indelible mark on the Geelong construction industry and community.

As Gary Iacono embarks on the journey of retirement after 46 years of dedicated service to Lyons Construction, we celebrate not only his remarkable tenure but also the legacy he leaves behind. His unwavering commitment, adaptability, and leadership have played a pivotal role in the company’s success. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Gary on this well-deserved milestone, we wish him all the best in his future endeavours and spending more time with his wife Kerri, daughter Grace and his extended family. With all the buildings in Geelong and our region that he has been involved in, he has truly helped shape Geelong. His legacy will continue to inspire Lyons Construction and the construction industry for years to come.

Gary’s last day in the office will be Thursday 28th of September. We are very pleased that Gary will remain as a Director and member of the Board. Words are hard to find to adequately describe Gary’s contribution, but we wish him all the best on this transition in life.
