For more than 25 years, Lyons Construction has been a supporter of the Give Where You Live Foundation – a place-based philanthropic community foundation. Through various initiatives and monetary donations, we are proud to give back to such a community-focused foundation.
Continually assessing and addressing social needs within the Geelong region, the foundation is simultaneously proactive and reactive in making change. Through a combination of innovative and traditional programs and support, Give Where You Live are creating meaningful change to people’s lives in our community, and inspiring our community to do the same. These innovative and traditional programs (Change Initiatives) include a grants programs, advocacy work, the innovative GROW program, WorkWell, Feed Geelong , and Community Choice.
As a Director and Board Member of Lyons Construction, Norm Lyons first became involved with the charity over 25 years ago. Since, he has taken part in the Loaned Executive Program and became Campaign Chairperson in 2003. As a team, Lyons Construction participate in Workplace Giving and hold monthly Give Where You Live morning teas. This is rounded off with a corporate donation that sees the company as a Foundation Gold Member.
Most recently, Lyons Construction was able to lead the construction of Give Where You Live’s office refurbishment, which saw their out-dated Geelong CBD head office transformed into a modern, ‘community-lab’ co-working space. Most impressively, Lyons Construction was able to secure a local procurement result of 98% of locally sourced subcontractors for the project – something we are extremely proud of.
The company and its employees have a long association with local charities and giving back to its community, something Norm’s Father and company founder, Eric was passionate about. “He would be proud of where the company is today and the impact we continue to have in our region after all these years,” Norm said.
We look forward to working with the Give Where You Live Foundation and giving back to the foundation and its various change initiatives for years to come.
