Commemorative video: Lyons Construction – 90 Years in the Making

By | News

It was with great pride that Lyons Construction launched a commemorative video “Lyons Construction –  90 Years in the Making” at their 90th Anniversary celebration on Friday 8 November 2019.

Produced by the highly talented team from True South Film the video captures the essence of the third generation family business founded by Eric James Lyons in 1929. The firm foundation that Eric laid and instilled in his children, Kevin and Norm, and grandchildren, Steve and Christine, of honesty and integrity and a focus on hard work, quality workmanship and looking for new opportunities when times are tough have been integral to the business’s 90 years of success. As Kevin, notes, “Dad’s work ethic, his honesty and integrity, and his strong family values, continue to inspire us both professionally and personally today.”

The video is dedicated to the 100s of individuals who have been involved in creating buildings “Built By Lyons”. The Lyons Construction Board looks forward to continuing to collaborate with the whole team including the client, LC team, subcontractors, suppliers, architects and consultants to achieve buildings of excellence so that we may continue to build a vibrant, successful and strong community as we have been doing so since 1929.

Celebrating 90 years of building excellence

The article in the Geelong Advertiser today says it all. Thank you to all involved and to those coming to our party tonight we look forward to sharing this special occasion with you.

Celebrating 90 years of building excellence

A PROUD third-generation local business is toasting 90 years of building excellence. Lyons Construction Geelong’s oldest and largest commercial construction company, is marking the milestone with a cocktail party tonight. Chairman, Norm Lyons said the occasion salutes almost a century of building distinction, which all began when his father, Eric James Lyons, and uncle, Allan Lyons, built their first house near Echuca in 1929. “The event is an opportunity to thank and pay tribute to all of the individuals who have contributed to our success over the years,” Norm said. The first house, “Built by Lyons”, in Geelong, was 1 Sommers Street, Belmont. The house sits proudly on the hill today and is a testament to Eric’s insistence on quality workmanship. Eric’s legacy is as solid as the 100s of houses he and his team built over the decades to come. “Dad’s work ethic, his honesty and integrity, and his strong family values, continues to inspire us both professionally and personally, today”, son Kevin explains. Building is an integral part of the family history with Eric’s two sons Kevin and Norm having completed their apprenticeships with the business. They then continued to work alongside each other for the next 50 years. Kevin retired as a director in 2016 and his daughter Christine is a current director and human resources manager. Meanwhile, Norm’s son Steve is a director and commercial manager. Managing director Gary Iacono, said Lyons Construction prides itself on developing solid relationships with clients, many of whom have trusted the company to complete multiple projects over the years. “Construction is a team effort. It requires dedication, hard work and collaboration towards delivering a quality outcome,” he said. “We are fortunate to have a skilled, reliable and dedicated team of staff, subcontractors and suppliers who all work together to achieve excellence in building.” Lyons Construction is extremely proud of the many community buildings; schools, medical facilities, libraries, children’s centres and other educational facilities as these provide a tremendous benefit to the whole community. Lyons Construction supports locals in other ways, too. The company, and its employees, has a long association with local charities, including Give Where You Live. “Eric believed in giving back to his community,” Norm said. “He would be proud of where the company is today and the impact we continue to have in our region after all these years.” The industry leader has also collected many awards over the years including overall winner of the Geelong Business Excellence Awards, and last year won Master Builder of Victoria – Commercial Builder of the Year (South West Region).
