About the project

Major modernisation works were undertaken at Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College to bring new life into the existing school buildings. While the original 1970’s façade and structure were maintained, internally the buildings were given a major facelift.

The Embling building, which once housed simple and dark classrooms, now features vibrant colours, natural light and, a striking yellow steel and glass staircase. The ground floor houses three main areas – a staff area, front office, and art & textiles learning spaces. The second floor features a large library space and new classrooms.

The sweeping views of Corio Bay and GMHBA Stadium can be seen from the top floor – which now hosts new dedicated-science rooms, a media room, Year 12 student lounge, and additional classrooms. Additional work was undertaken on the Heritage building, including removal of its east and west wings to give way to landscaped gardens, and a new canteen facility.
