About the project

The Katsumata Centre at Kardinia International College was created as a tribute to the founder of the school, Mr Yoshimaro Katsumata.

A multipurpose space the building can be transformed, using an automated retractable seating system, from a sporting facility into a 1200 seat performing arts theatre.

Externally metallic alucobond paneling changes colour as light reflects from its many angles and internally inverted truss and sawtooth structural systems allow for large spans that maximise natural light, facilitate optimal acoustics and allow for the concealment of HVAC services.

The project proved to be a big hit with the judges of the both the 2011 Master Builders Association of Victoria Regional Building Awards and the Excellence in Construction Awards. At the Regional Building Awards, we took home the Commercial Builder of the Year – South West title and the Excellence in Construction – Commercial Buildings Over $6M award. At the Excellence in Construction Awards, we were awarded Regional Commercial Builder of the Year.
