The Highton Child and Family Centre, located in close proximity to Bellaire Primary School, is ideally situated to provide a range of services including child care, kindergarten, maternal, and child health services along with other consulting services.
The building fans out around a large central foyer, or gathering space, which provides a welcoming hub for all who visit. Deep verandahs further enhance the bespoke external play spaces by creating outside areas for all-weather use. Unique features of the centre include rammed earth walls with recessed round windows. Through attention to passive design and the innovative use of sustainable materials, practices, and technologies the building achieved a 6 star Green Star rating denoting ‘world leadership’ in sustainability.
