About the project

The Waurn Ponds Library & Community Hub is a multi-use facility housing a library, community meeting facility, and a customer service point for the City of Greater Geelong.

Extending over two levels the building is encased in polished black precast panels which are in turn “veiled” in 600 individually laser-cut steel screens.

The steel, which has been powder-coated in gold paint, helps absorb solar heat gains. Double glazed, German manufactured, ventilators with black powder-coated aluminum frames provide day time ventilation and nighttime cooling.

This project was recognised at the 2012 Master Builders Association of Victoria Regional Building Awards, winning the award for Excellence in Construction – Commercial Buildings $3M – $6M.
