About the project

The refurbishment of the existing library over three levels at Deakin University, Waurn Ponds Campus, showcases a new direction for contemporary learning.

The building comprises a series of spaces including group and individual study spaces, a moot court, an IT training space, and a 24-hour access computer room.

Use of raw and recycled materials combined with atypical design features such as neon lighting, contrasting dark and light spaces, coloured glass, and a book feature wall made from 30,000 disused books recycled from the library’s own collection.

This project saw Lyons Construction win big at the Master Builders Association of Victoria Regional Building Awards, being awarded the Excellence in Construction – Commercial Buildings Over $6M awarded and recognised as Commercial Builder of the Year – South West.
