About the project

The Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre is a new two-storey multi-purpose facility built for the Surf Coast Shire. Ground Level comprises 5 large adjoining child playrooms with accompanying junior toilet facilities, a circular internal atrium courtyard, and several multi-purpose rooms for community use. Level 2 is accessed either via the lift or adjacent stairs and contains staff facilities that overlook child playrooms.

The building design is sympathetic to the recently constructed Surf Coast Shire office complex located across the road. There is extensive use of natural materials including exposed natural timbers on the façade, structural columns, fencing and internally throughout. A feature rammed earth wall is located in the entry foyer. Externally, the landscaping is designed to provide varied experiences for children including meandering stone-paved pathways, sand play areas, digging patch, timber posts and mudstone rocks for climbing, a hand water pump, and a water-misting arbour. These features are complemented with soft fall turf play areas and locally sourced vegetation and semi-mature trees.
